And an Amy’s gluten-free frozen mac and cheese - all of which I managed to hold in my arms by stacking everything on the toilet paper and holding the glass jar of preserves in my hand.Īfter I paid at the automatic check out, I restacked everything on the toilet paper pack. Then I realized we needed a jar of those delicious, all-natural raspberry preserves and some Newman’s oil and vinegar salad dressing. But after I got the six pack of T-shirts, I realized we could also use also some toilet paper. So I didn’t bother to get a shopping cart or bring a shopping bag into the store. When I went to the Sullivan County box store, I only meant to buy a package of colored T-shirts for my 97-year-old father-in-law. Yet in a world with so much gone wrong, a small moment during the routine outing shines as an example of what’s still right and good in our everyday lives. It seemed like such an ordinary thing - shopping for T-shirts.
